Château La Révérence
SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU
The Château La Révérence is located behind the village of Saint-Emilion in a pretty sandyclay area known as ‘Jean Voisin’ at the foot of the Saint-Georges hills..
There are three acres, of land equipped with everything needed to produce a Grand Cru. A small but modern wine cellar was built there in 1998, enabling plot-by-plot winemaking in little demi-muid (400-litre) stainless steel vats.
The wines have a dense and full-bodied character reinforced by the inclusion of top-quality cabernets francs in the blend.
Château La Révérence consists of three hectares of land on the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
Located behind the village on a clay-rich plateau bordering the Grands Crus Classés, (Médoc Classification of 1855), the terroir is characterised by the presence of three ancient cabernets francs that make up half of the total grape varieties and help create dense wines with aromatic complexity..
SOIL AND POSITION :
Plots grouped over three hectares close to the Chauvin and Grand Corbin châteaux and the Grands Crus Classés.
Sandy soil covering clay-rich subsoil with some calcareous soil further down.
ENCEPAGE AND BLEND :
- 50 % merlots
- 50 % cabernets francs
PLANTATION DENSITY :
5500 to 8500 plants/hectare.
AGE OF VINES :
- 10 years : 14%
- 30 years : 24 %
- 40 years : 8%
- 50 years : 18%
- +60 years : 34%
AVERAGE YIELD :
Supervised growing techniques ; Mechanical weed control and alternating rows of ground cover ; Manual leaf thinning and green harvesting ; Manual grape harvesting.
Vibrating separating table. Full plot-by-plot winemaking in 400-litre barrels and small thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Cap-punching practised. Cold pre-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels.
14-month maturation, 40% in new barrels.
ANNUAL OUTPUT :
15 000 barrels.
Bottled at the Château. Boxes of six or 12 bottles ; Magnums and double magnums available.
